Willow pattern is a classic blue and white transferware pattern that has been popular on dishes since the 18th century. According to the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Willow pattern design is believed to have been originated by Thomas Minton for Thomas Turner’s Caughley factory in Shropshire around 1780. The design is thought to have been inspired by a Japanese fairy tale called The Green Willow and Chinese variants of it which tells the story of two thwarted lovers.
